石料是河道抢险中最常用的料物，其可做散抛石，与其它料物组合成铅丝笼、埽体等，起着护岸、抗冲作用，是防洪工程抗御洪水不可替代的物料。险情具有突发性，并要抢小、抢早、抢少，因此要在堤防上提前备料，以便急需时用，备防石就是其中之一。
