奥林匹克公园是2008年奥运会的中心区域, 公园地处北京市区北部、城市中轴线北端, 规划总用地1135hm2。其中北部森林公园680hm2, 中心区用地291hm2, 南部地区114hm2, 中华民族园及部分北中轴路用地50hm2。根据奥林匹克公园总体规划, 公园内将新建国家体育场、国家体育馆、国家游泳中心、国家网球中心、国家曲棍球场等主要场馆以及展览中心、奥运村、记者村等设施, 使之成为一个集体育竞赛、会议展览、文化娱乐和休闲购物于一体的多功能市民公共活动中心。

 

为美化景观, 协调建筑布局, 体现“ 绿色奥运, 人文奥运” 的主题, 奥林匹克公园规划设计方案中充分考虑了水的设计。规划在北部森林公园内建设奥运湖。在中心区新建一条景观河道, 河道蜿蜒流经中心区后汇入奥运湖。水系与绿色交错, 贯穿南北, 并与建筑群
